ROHM proposes laser diodes that support a wide range of needs in the consumer, industrial, and automotive markets, including high power metal CAN package types that provide high accuracy long range sensing with narrow emission width ideal for robot vacuums and AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles). Also offered is a new surface mount VCSEL solution that allows for short distance wide range sensing and contributes to the miniaturization of LiDAR/ToF ranging modules by adopting a proprietary structure to achieve a single lobe narrow beam point, making it ideal for facial recognition, industrial robots and driver monitoring systems.


ROHM's optical sensors include high sensitivity, high-reliability phototransistors, infrared light-emitting diodes, transmission type photo interrupters, and reflective type photo interrupters.

With the unprecedented need for contactless sensing due to the global pandemic, optical sensors have been utilized in sanitizer dispensers at long-term healthcare facilities to ensure health and safety compliance.

In industrial and commercial applications, optical sensors are also being used for distance and temperature sensing and automation in Industry 4.0 applications. For example, optical sensors can detect liquid levels in process engineering facilities, such as petroleum levels in tank farms and hydrocarbon refineries, by integrating an infrared LED, light transistor, and a transparent prism tip.
